Some developers enjoy greenfield builds. Others are good at opening an unfamiliar codebase, working out what happened, and getting it to production. TakeoverWork is for the second group. Every project here has already started, so you will not be wading through "build me the next big app" requests.

What you will find

Listings are takeovers: software projects that are part built and need finishing, fixing or hardening. Typical examples:

  • apps built with AI builders such as Lovable, Bolt, v0 or Replit, where auth, payments or deployment broke on the way to production;
  • custom web apps and SaaS products left behind by a previous developer or a closed agency;
  • Bubble, FlutterFlow and Webflow builds that hit a limit;
  • WordPress, WooCommerce and Shopify sites that are almost done;
  • React Native, Flutter and native mobile apps that need finishing or an app store release;
  • n8n, Make and Zapier automations and AI agents that partly work.

Each listing follows the same structure: what it is built with, what works, what is broken or blocked, what remains, repository status, what can be handed over, and why it is available. If the repository is public, you can run a Repo Health Check from the listing.

Find takeover jobs fast

  • Filters: category, subcategory, tools and skills, completion estimate, budget range and currency, repository status, poster type, handover reason, time zone overlap, posting date, "No interests yet", "Has public repo" and "Has live URL".
  • Sorts: relevance, newest, nearly complete first, fewest interests.
  • Saved searches and alerts: save any search and choose a daily email digest or instant alerts when a matching project is posted.

All filters are free during launch. Browse open takeovers.

Structured interest notes, no bidding

When a project fits, you send an interest note with four parts:

  1. Approach: how you would start.
  2. Relevant experience: similar rescues or stacks you have worked on.
  3. Availability: when you could begin.
  4. Effort band: a rough range, from under a week to over three months, or "need to review the code first".

There is no price field and no bidding. Customers compare notes side by side, so a specific, honest note about their actual problem stands out. Listings stop taking new interest after a set number of notes, which keeps each project from being flooded. Once the customer replies, you talk on the platform, request contact details when you are both ready, and agree scope and payment directly. We never take a cut of project fees.

Before committing, our guides on assessing a takeover before you commit, pricing rescue work fairly and your first week on an inherited codebase may help.

Free during launch

While the marketplace is new, everything for developers is free: your profile, search, saved searches, alerts and interest notes. Fair-use limits apply to stop spam. If optional paid features are added later, browsing and a basic profile will stay free, and we will tell you well in advance.

Founding Provider programme

The first 200 developers and agencies who complete their profile become Founding providers. You get:

  • a "Founding provider" badge on your profile;
  • bonus credits if paid features ever launch.

The badge means you joined early. It is not a statement about skill, and we describe it that way on the site.

Honest profiles and badges

Your profile shows your headline, rescue specialties, skills, time zone, availability, portfolio and links. It also shows two separate numbers: takeovers continued via TakeoverWork (counted only when a customer marks the project as continued with you) and rescue projects you report yourself. Response time and response rate are calculated from your actual replies.

Badges describe one specific check each: Email verified, GitHub connected, Phone verified, Business verified and Identity verified (reserved, not granted yet). TakeoverWork does not check anyone's skills, so customers are encouraged to look at your work and ask questions. The safety page explains each badge.

Reviews are interaction reviews from customers whose connection with you reached "selected", "continued" or "completed". You can post one public reply to each.

Good habits that win work

  • Read the whole listing and answer the problem it describes.
  • Be clear about what you need to see before you can estimate.
  • Ask for access through collaborator invites, never passwords.
  • Put scope, milestones and payment terms in writing before you start.

Get started

Sign in with GitHub, Google or your email, choose that you find takeover work during onboarding, and complete your profile. Then browse open takeovers and save your first search.

Frequently asked questions

Is it free for developers?

Yes, during launch. Creating a profile, searching, saved searches, alerts and sending interest notes are all free. If optional paid features are added later, browsing and a basic profile will stay free, and we will announce changes in advance.

Why can't I include a price in my interest note?

Interest notes are designed to show how you would approach the project, not to start a bidding war. Once the customer replies, you can discuss scope and price in messages and agree terms directly.

Does TakeoverWork take a commission on the work I get?

No. The platform never handles project payments or takes a cut. You agree the price and get paid directly by the customer.

What is the Founding Provider programme?

The first 200 developers or agencies who complete their profile get a Founding provider badge. If paid features ever launch, founding providers also get bonus credits. The badge shows you joined early; it says nothing about skill.

Can agencies post projects as well as find them?

Yes. Agencies can post inherited or overflow projects as a customer, and find takeover work as a provider, from the same account.

How do I get the GitHub connected badge?

Connect your GitHub account when you set up your profile. The badge confirms the account is linked and shows its age. It does not check your code.
