Affiliate Disclosure
On this page
Some links are affiliate links; we may earn a commission at no cost to you.
Posting, browsing and the free tools on TakeoverWork cost nothing. To pay for running the site, some pages include affiliate links and advertising. This page explains how both work.
What an affiliate link is
An affiliate link is a link to another company's product that carries a tracking code. If you click it and then buy or sign up, that company may pay us a commission. The price you pay is the same as if you had gone to the company directly. Sometimes the company offers a discount through the link; when it does, we say so.
Where affiliate links appear
- In guides, where a product is relevant to the step being explained, such as hosting, domains, backups, error tracking or security scanning.
- In some free tool results, where a product helps fix what the tool found. For example, after the Secret Leak Scanner finds an exposed key, we may suggest a secrets manager.
Affiliate links never appear in messages between users or on takeover listings.
Every page that contains an affiliate link shows the disclosure above, near the link or at the start of the content. Affiliate cards are labelled so you can tell them apart from our own content.
How affiliate links are marked
- Affiliate links go through a short redirect on our site (
/go/...) so we can count how many times each link is used. We use this as a total count, not to build a profile of you. - They use
rel="sponsored nofollow noopener", which tells search engines the link is a paid relationship and does not pass ranking credit.
How products are chosen
- We only link to products that are relevant to the page and that solve a real problem people face when finishing or handing over software.
- We only join programmes for products we would be comfortable suggesting without a commission.
- Where a good free or open-source option exists, we mention it too.
- Commissions never change what a free tool reports, what a guide recommends as the right step, or how listings and developers are ranked. Tool results are calculated the same way whether or not an affiliate card is shown.
- If we stop believing a product is a good fit, we remove the link.
Mentioning a product is not an endorsement by that company of TakeoverWork, and we are not affiliated with the tools mentioned on the site unless we say so.
Advertising
Some content pages show ads served by Google AdSense, such as guides, problem pages, tool pages, category pages and approved listings.
- Ads are labelled "Advertisement" and are kept separate from buttons and links.
- We do not choose the individual ads you see and do not endorse the products advertised.
- Ads never appear on sign-in, posting, dashboard, message, settings or error pages, or on listings that are pending review or closed.
- Please click an ad only if it genuinely interests you. We never ask anyone to click ads.
- How Google uses cookies for ads, and how to control it, is explained in our Cookie Policy and Privacy Policy.
Paid products
If TakeoverWork later offers optional paid products, such as featured placement, any featured listing or profile will be clearly labelled "Featured". Paying for featured placement does not change the content of a listing or profile, its badges or its reviews.
