TakeoverWork is a marketplace for software projects that have already started and now need someone to finish them. People post their stalled app, website or automation for free. Developers and agencies who take over unfinished work find those projects, send a structured note, and talk on the platform. What happens next is agreed directly between the two of them.

Why it exists

A lot of software gets stuck halfway. An AI builder produced a working prototype but authentication keeps breaking. A freelancer moved on before the payment flow was finished. An agency closed. A no-code app hit a limit nobody planned for. In each case there is real work already done, and the owner needs someone who is comfortable picking up somebody else's code.

General freelance sites are built around new projects and bidding. TakeoverWork is built around one idea: every listing is a takeover. That makes it easier for project owners to describe what they have, and easier for developers who enjoy rescue work to find it.

What TakeoverWork is

  • A place to post an unfinished software project for free, with a clear description of what works, what is broken and what remains.
  • A place for developers, freelancers and agencies to search those projects, save searches, get alerts and send a structured interest note.
  • An on-platform messaging system where contact details are hidden until both sides agree to share them.
  • A set of free browser tools and guides that help people check, hand over and finish software projects.

What TakeoverWork is not

  • Not an employer or agency. We do not employ, supply or supervise developers, and we do not manage projects.
  • Not a payment service. We never set prices, hold money, take a commission on project fees or process payments between users. You agree the price, scope and payment method directly with the other person.
  • Not a checking service. Badges show only the specific thing that was checked, such as a confirmed email address or a connected GitHub account. We do not vet skills, quality or honesty. Read our safety advice before you agree anything.
  • Not a place for new builds. "Build me an app from scratch" is not a takeover. Listings must describe work that has already started. See the community guidelines.

Who runs it

TakeoverWork is operated by the site owner, an individual based in India. It is not run by a staffing firm or an investor-backed company. The legal terms that apply to the site are in the Terms of Use, and you can reach the operator through the contact page. Complaints under Indian law go to the Grievance Officer.

How TakeoverWork makes money

Posting, browsing, messaging and the free tools cost nothing. The site pays for itself in three ways:

  1. Advertising. Some content pages, such as guides, tool pages and approved listings, show ads served by Google AdSense. Ads are labelled "Advertisement" and never appear in messages, dashboards, the posting form or account pages.
  2. Affiliate links. Some guides and tool results link to products such as hosting or security services. If you buy through one of those links we may earn a commission at no cost to you. Every page with an affiliate link says so. Details are on the affiliate disclosure page.
  3. Optional paid products, later. We may later offer optional extras, such as a written project assessment for owners or extra interest credits for developers. Posting a project, reading listings, searching and using the free tools will stay free.

Our working principles

  • No invented activity. We never publish fake listings, fake developers, fake reviews or made-up counters. If a page is empty, it says so.
  • Honest labels. Badges and statistics mean exactly what their tooltip says and nothing more.
  • Your money stays between you. The platform never touches project payments.
  • Privacy by default. Contact details are shared only when both sides approve, messages are scanned to hide contact details and block secrets, and most free tools run entirely in your browser. See the privacy policy.

Get started

If your project is stuck, post your takeover. It is free and takes a few minutes. If you finish and rescue software for a living, read how it works for developers and browse open takeovers.

Third-party product names on this site, such as Lovable, Bubble or WordPress, are used only to describe what projects are built with. TakeoverWork is not affiliated with the tools mentioned.

Stuck with a half-built app?

Post your project free. Developers who finish and rescue projects can send you an interest note, and you decide who to talk to. You agree scope and payment directly with them.
