Bolt app takeovers: get a stalled Bolt.new project running for real

Bolt.new, made by StackBlitz, runs an entire Node.js development environment inside the browser using WebContainers. That makes the first version fast to produce, and it also means the app may never have run anywhere else. Projects vary more than with other builders: Vite with React is common, but Bolt also generates Next.js, Astro and Expo projects, often wired to Supabase and deployed through Netlify.

Where Bolt takeovers usually start

Owners often post when progress stops. Each prompt uses more tokens as the codebase grows, and the AI begins rewriting working files or reintroducing fixed bugs. Other listings describe a build that succeeds in the preview but fails on the host, environment variables that only exist in Bolt, or a database integration half configured.

Getting the code ready

Download the project or push it to GitHub so the developer works from a full copy, including the lock file. Note every external service the app touches and where its keys live today. Pausing prompts while someone else edits the same files avoids overwritten work. If the repository is public, the repo health check gives both of you a quick snapshot, and Bolt app stuck explains the common failure patterns in more depth.

Frequently asked questions

Which framework does my Bolt project use?

Check the package.json file in the project. Look for dependencies such as react and vite, next, astro or expo. That tells a developer which tooling they will need to run and deploy it.

Why does my Bolt app work in the preview but not after deploying?

The preview runs in your browser tab, so missing environment variables, server-only code or database settings may never have been tested on real hosting. A developer will usually reproduce the production build locally to find the gap.
